Really, he'll do whatever he wants, whenever he wants just as long as it benefits him. Ability/Specialization: N/A Occupation: Fantasy Author Resident Location: London - a comfortable three bedroom terrace house. Personality: Self serving. Distant. Manipulative. That is what Andrew is in a nutshell. All his life he's only thought about himself and how each situation will benefit himself the most. Perhaps it is due to the way that he grew up but he has never thought about how his actions would impact others or what others thought of him. Therefore it would come as no surprise that not only does he not connect well with other people, coming off quite anti-social and awkward in any social situation but he barely feels any emotion at all. He's rarely, happy, sad, mad, depressed - anything at all and when he is he has taught himself not to show it in case it can be used against him. Of course, given that once he wants something he will do what it takes to get it, he doesn't care if people are hurt in the process. He'll use them to his purposes and then just abandon them once he has completed whatever he has set out to do. This has lead him to making many enemies over the years, but when it comes down to it. He doesn't care. At all. He has never seen the need to get close to anyone, viewing it as a weakness and he despises being weak. If he cannot be the best at something then he won't have attempted it. Or at least admit to attempting it to other people, because like everyone else he does have his faults and weaknesses he just doesn't hang his out for just everyone to see. On the same strain, he has pretended to never need anything in his life, never allowing himself to grow close to anyone, despite a part of him wishing that it wasn't so. That part is a very very small part, that he has buried deep within him. In fact the only people he has gotten close to over the years in any sort of way are the escorts he hires on rare occasions or the business partners that he pretends to be close to, to find out the information that he needs for his books. Andrew has a massive first for knowledge of all types and combined with his very ruthless attitude towards life, it was what led him to discover that magic existed in the first place. Now he isn't afraid to use this information to his own advantage. Apart of him wants to use this information for his own use - one reason he went into writing fantasy books but another part of him actually desires to know the information. He is never one to let opportunities or knowledge escape him. Especially if it leaves him at a disadvantage or in the dark, which this would. History: Born to Sarah and Oliver McArthur of Glasgow, Scotland, Andrew was at first a very normal boy, up until the age of three years old. In fact there was nothing unusual about him, he was as normal as one could get. That was until his parents were killed in a car crash and with no other relatives or close friends who would take him in he was shipped off to an orphanage on the outskirts of Endingburgh. From then on his life continued to change and for the worst as well. He found that, so many years younger than everyone else in the orphanage that he had no one close to his age to interact with. Of course this meant that he spent the majority of his time alone, with only books for company. As he grew older he found that the other children despised his bookish nature and often made fun of him. This resulted in him retreating further into his books but before long he learned how to completely ignore them and not let them get to him. By the time he was ten he had taught himself that people didn't matter. All that mattered to him was that he was happy with who he was and that he got the best out of each situation. Being beaten and bullied would do that to someone. He always did well in school and had a massive craving of knowledge. From the time that he started there, he learned how to use every advantage to his situation no matter how small it was. After several more failed attempts at friendships and dating, he just gave that sort of thing up. Instead he used the people he met for his own uses. He just was the type of who did the best when he focused on the task at hand and what it had in for him. By the time he graduated from school with more than decent marks, he applied and was accepted into Cambridge University to study Politics, which at the time is what he believed he wanted to go into. That was when he started to notice things occurring that were out of the norm. Things that made no sense to him and he hated that. Finally he found out about Magic and it opened his eyes to everything. He was furious that it had taken him so long to realise that it existed. Of course he knew that technically he wasn't supposed to know - right? It didn't help matters though, he was determined to find out as much as possible as he could about it. In time he decided to use this knowledge for his own use and started to write Fantasy novels. He never explicitly retold stories but took bits and pieces from what he knew and weaved them into his own stories and characters. He has done this for the past ten or so years, from the time he was 25. He loves being able to bribe and manipulate the magical community - well he likes to think that he has power over them but little does he know that it would be incredibly hard to actually have power over them. Still very much a loner, he spends him time writing or trying to find more information out that he can use for his own purposes. Any plot you're thinking of: I can see him having interactions with people he went to Cambridge with as well as even people from the Orphanage if need be. A lot of plot could come from the Magical community though and how he 'uses' them to get information for his novels, to get the truth out there in a round about way. Of course I would love it if the Magical community was actually the ones playing him as I think it could be something that he needs. Writing Sample: Andrew sat at the table in the bar, nursing a glass of beer between his hands. He had started to frequent this place a few years back after discovering it was an excellent place to find the Magical Community in one form or another. In fact it had been here that he had first discovered it so in some ways it was sentimental to him - though he would deny that till the end of the Earth. Andrew McArthur was never sentimental. Ever. |
