The family of three moved to England when Winifred was three and settled into a small house in Carlisle. Her father was an ambassador to England and her mother a house wife. She spent most of her time at home with nannies and governesses as her mother wanted nothing to do with her, instead spent her time with other women and men she would more than occasionally take as lovers. Her parents tried hard not to spoil her and told the people who looked after her to do the same. By the time she was eight or nine though she managed to learn how to escape them though. She did love her lessons in singing and dancing though and they were the two things she would actually work at, unlike the other lessons she tried her hardest to skip out on. When she was ten her father started to gamble a lot more frequently, spending up a lot of their money which meant she started to learn how it was to live a harder life - not too hard though, they still had money just nowhere near as much as they. It was around this time that her parents sat down and talked to her, both of them at once which was rather unusual, and explained to her that her behaviour would have to change, that if she wanted to get anywhere she would have to work hard and have people she could trust. Especially as they didn't have as much money as they used to so they could no longer coast along. At first she didn't believe them but as their situation continued to worsen and her mother had to take a job, she started to realise that what they had told her was true. Out of loyalty to her parents and not wanting to disappoint them, Winifred started to focus a lot on her school work, working as hard as she could on them in an effort to not only please them but with the thought that it could help her family bring them back to the level they were before her father started to gamble. Starting Hogwarts, when she was eleven she fully expected to be sorted into Slytherin for her ambition but was surprisingly sorted into Hufflepuff. Over time though she has come to realise that was the best house for her. While she did have some ambition it was mostly her ability to work hard and devote herself to what she was undertaking. It was also here at Hogwarts that she made her first friends, people who would become family to her. She worked hard at her classes and joined a couple of extra-curricular in the drama club, choir, astronomy club, home front support and the duelling club to pass her time. Her favourite class was Divination surprisingly, something she found easy but enjoyable though it wasn't her best, that being Defense.
