Rangers are warriors and hunters who excel at exploring the fringes of civilization. Hunters, scouts, trappers, and assassins rangers can be found wherever civilization borders the wilderness. Many rangers use only natural armor and benefit from a closeness to the wild. Nearly all rangers worship a god, and almost always this god is tied in some way to the natural world.
| Danaw, was born in the town of Calypsos to two rangers - Serir and Dynia. The two of them had settled there for the term of Dynia's pregnancy before the three of them headed back out into the wild, to continue to range. Both Serir and Dynia were trained scouts and hunters. They rarely stayed in one place longer than a week, preferring to be on the move, forever exploring the wilderness of the realm. From an early age, in fact as soon as she could walk and hold an arrow by herself, her parents taught Danaw the way of the rangers. She learned how to hunt for food and look for unusual signs that didn't belong in the forrest - broken branches, leaves messed around in a way that an animal normally wouldn't. Not only that but Danaw's parents passed on to her their worship of the god Ardwinna who looked over animals, familiars and the woodlands, the areas of the Rangers. By the time Danaw was five, killing came to her as naturally to her as breathing. After all, she needed to kill for food and her parents wouldn't be around forever. In fact, they were getting on in age as it was. There were diseases and accidents that could take them from the world too. The years passed and Danaw and her family travelled around the realm, staying close to the forests, never entering the highly populated areas unless there was an extreme need to do so. When Danaw was eighteen, her life changed when here parents were killed by a stray bow. No one came forward, in fact when she went to investigate, Danaw found no one though she could see the clues that someone had been there not that long ago. After burying her parents in the forest where they were, Danaw continued to roam the realm, sticking to herself and never taking up with other rangers that she would occasionally cross paths with. It wasn't long after that, when she started to hear rumours of the Shards of Daelia taking their effect on Lord Galum. At first she ignored them but then she started to pick up on other signs, signs that convinced her that something must be done about it before things grew to the point that there was no chance of saving them. They had to keep Galum from going completely insane. From there she travelled through cities, drawing some attention to herself given how rarely Rangers were spotted in the major cities until she ended back at the city of her birth where she has met up with seven other people that were out to destroy the shards as well. |
