IN CHARACTER INFO:
Full Name: Mary Elizabeth McGrath
Age/DOB: 23 | November 2
Appearance: Mary, is relatively slender as well as being on the shorter side when it comes to her height, coming in at 5'3. Her looks are a throw back to her Scottish heritage with her pale skin and red hair.
Mary has never been one to place much stoke in how she dresses, preferring to be comfortable rather than fashionable, which can be helpful in her line of work. Her favourite outfit is a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt over a white t-shirt. Plain, simple and most of all comfortable.
PB: Karen Gillan
Personality: Mary is inquisitive, friendly and intelligent as well as being a bit of a tom boy when it comes down to it. From a young age she had a love of history and fantasy, enjoying games of make believe of that sort of type compared to dolls and house like other girls her age. She enjoyed the stories of wars and battles of the Kings and Queens of the past, the fight for dominance and what they believed was right - against enemies who believed the same for what they were fighting for. It was just so more interesting than the day to day stuff that was happening around her. Add in Dragons and she was beyond captivated. A part of her liked to believe that Dragons, Unicorns and the like, if they didn't exist then, had existed at some point. After all, the ideas had to come from someplace, right?
While growing up she wasn't the most popular person due to her interests not fitting in with the other people she went to school with, she did try her hardest to be nice to them. Especially after being bullied when she was younger, she didn't want anyone else to go through the things that she did. Even if hers wasn't bad it was bad enough to make an impact on her as she grew up. This was actually what fully lead her to submerging in books and developing her passion for history and fantasy, using them as a way to escape the people who wanted to make her life hell.
Mary, can be quite thorough and precise when it comes to her work. Not only is she aware that it would be disastrous to say something was true then to discover that it wasn't, it is her passion and she wants to personally learn as much as she can about it. She can often get so carried away that she will spend days and days working at something, barely taking a break from it to the point that she ended up having to be admitted to hospital for exhaustion and the like. That was the first and last time she forgot to eat and take breaks from her work.
Always eager to learn, she will tackle things head on and push herself to her boundaries and beyond, constantly looking for ways to improve herself and make her work easier. She's also quite intelligent and picks up things easily which does help her in her line of work. She'll learn anything from languages to new computer systems and anything in between.
In the very little spare time that she has, Mary enjoys reading a novel, swimming and practicing kick boxing. Or any other sport that can get her down and dirty. Her favourite sport to watch is car racing though she herself enjoys swimming the most when it comes to participating in sports. Plus, she finds its a good way to stay fit.
Personal History: Mary Elizabeth McGrath is your standard Scottish Girl, living in Manchester. She grew up in a normal childhood, though as an only child who didn't have much contact with other children her own age until she went to school. Her parents lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere meaning she spent a lot of her childhood helping out where she could given her age. When she wasn't working on the farm, she was reading as her parents didn't own a television - mostly because they had really bad reception out where they were and they believed there was other, better ways to stimulate a young child's brain.
At school, she had no idea how to interact with the other children and quickly found that barely any of them could read and even if they did none of them were interested in the fantasy stories that she enjoyed. This ended up with her retreating more into her books. It didn't help that a couple of children in her year and the year above her liked to tease her about this. In the end, she would often just spend her lunch holed up in the corner of the library with whatever book she was currently reading. In time she came to love it in there and got to know the people who worked quite well. It was from them that she started to broaden her reading material though fantasy and history novels always remained her favourites.
Mary did quite well in all of her classes and enjoyed learning which didn't help the students and their incessant bullying of her. In time though, she learned how to ignore it and not react to them. The less she reacted, she realised, the less they would bully her. Though of course there was always one or two that never learned even as they grew up.
By the time she reached High School, she had made one or two friends but she still very much enjoyed spending times with her books rather than people. It was also by then that the bullying stopped completely as the main instigators of it moved onto other things - mainly boys. She continued to focus on her school work with the aim of becoming a Historian or Archeologist when she completed her A-levels, something her teachers encouraged her to peruse.
When she was fifteen, Mary came to the decision she wanted to learn another sport beside from swimming and took up Karate. She had always thought it would be an interesting sport and she had been taking kick boxing lessons since she was ten. The two of them combined along with her recreational swimming meant she built up quite a bit of muscle tone in her body, though it isn't obvious at first glance.
After completing her A-levels, she was accepted into Oxford to study History much to her delight. While it wasn't that far a move it was far enough that she had to completely start over with her life, something that she found that she didn't mind when it came down to it. No one knew her or habits and she found some like minded people. It was here she met ___ who would quickly become her best friend and confident.
The years passed by quickly and she found she was really enjoying herself and before long she had graduated from Oxford with her degree in History, majoring in the history of the Tudor period of Britain. From there she started looking for jobs and quickly came to the realisation that she wasn't sure where she wanted to work. On a whim she applied to work for SPA not expecting to get in but she did to her surprise. When she discovered what they were truly about she realised she was at home and she absolutely loved it there.
She delved into her work, putting all she had into it, often spending days and days working on her project to the point that she often would forget to sleep and eat. It got so bad that a month into her job she ended up in the hospital after going three days without eating or sleeping. That was the last time she forgot about those though she continued to put just about all she had into her work.
It wasn't long after that she gained herself a mentor in ___ (
