abilities
Powerful overall magically (she's a Witch) she is exceptionally strong in the field of Transfiguration, especially defensive transfiguration. She also excels at Defence and Charms. She's also loyal, honest, highly intelligent and determined when it comes to a lot of things.
personality
Minerva is a kind, caring but stern woman who looks out for all of her friends and classmates. She uses her stern exterior to keep other students under control in her role of prefect and won't take any misbehaving unless it’s an extreme case, as she works hard to protect them.

She enjoys a good conversation with friends and is easy to get along with once you break through her sternness which is actually quite easy to do. Minerva tries to make friends with everyone she has a lot of interaction with even if they have a rocky start though when she was younger she was extremely shy among groups of people and people she hadn't met before. This slowly changed as she moved through Hogwarts with the help of her friends who she came to rely on greatly.

She cares a lot about her friends and family which many consider a weakness and is quite adverse to prejudice of any sort which many people didn't and still don't like. Once someone gets into Minerva's heart they will find it is extremely hard for them to get out of it again as she forms friendships for life. Many people value the fact that they can rely on her in times of need and is always willing to listen to them.

Minerva at heart is a person who loves learning and is known to be a bit of a bookworm and quiet intelligent. She has always worked hard at her work and believes in doing the best that she can at everything. That of course doesn't mean she doesn't know how to have fun of course. She enjoys Quidditch and relaxing with her friends, just like anyone else would.

She is a firm believer in justice and has never understood why people see the need to be cruel and prejudiced to other people. It is much easier to be nice to them - or distant if you don't like them. Of course, she is renowned for her Scottish Temper which can sometimes get the better of her, though she usually regrets loosing it afterwards - except for the times when someone truly deserves what she dishes out to them. The easiest way to get her to loose her temper is to threaten someone she cares about - that is something she will not abide by at all and the only time she will rush into a situation without thinking about it before hand.

Most of all though, Minerva is incredibly stubborn when it comes to a lot of things but she hates giving up whether it is an argument or a problem with her school work. The harder it is, the more determined she becomes at achieving whatever it is that she is undertaking.
history
Born on October 4th 1935 to Isobel and Robert McGonagall she grew up in a loving house hold despite some initial awkwardness and suspicion in relation to magic being real, as the oldest of three children. Her parents loved her but didn't overly spoil her like some only children that she new of. Her parents made sure that she had plenty to do and soon discovered that she was quite bright. Due to her parents influence she grew up as a bit of a bookworm who greatly enjoyed Quidditch. Her parents introduced her to chess at the age of nine which she quickly too as well.

That wasn't to say her childhood was perfect - her father was a Muggle Minister at the local church and found it hard to attend that his family was Magical when he was raised to believe that they were evil. She saw the toll it took on her mother, not using magic to appease him and she swore never to be in that situation. Little did she know that she would nearly end up in the same position when she was older.

When she entered Hogwarts in 1947 she was sorted into Gryffindor surprising both herself and her parents who thought she was destined for Ravenclaw given her love of reading and learning new things. While at Hogwarts she excelled in the majority of her classes but stood out above everyone else in Transfiguration. During her second year she was offered private lessons with Albus Dumbledore the Transfiguration teacher at the time and quickly advanced through the curriculum. During that year she also made the Gryffindor Quidditch Team as one of the chasers. Her peers called her a book work and teachers pet but she didn't mind.

She had always enjoyed learning new things and was proud of it. Minerva took electives of Arithmacy, Astronomy and Ancient Runes and got a total of eight Owls made up of Four O's, three E's and an A in History of Magic as well as being made a prefect that year. During her Newt years she continued on as Chaser and excelling in her subjects. In Seventh year she was named Head Girl though she didn't get Quidditch Captain which she was thankful for. She was allowed to learn how to become an Animagus under the direction of Professor Dumbledore though she didn't accomplish this until a number of years later. She graduated from Hogwarts in 1954 as the top student with O's across the board, something she also achieved in her OWLs.

After graduating from Hogwarts she was accepted into the Auror program where she trained beside some of the best aurors that would appear during the future wars, though little did they know that now. She quickly made a name for herself as an excellent dueller and not one to be messed with. After two years though, it became apparant that she wasn't enjoying her work in the Ministry as much as she would have liked to have done so. Over the summer she ended up deciding it wasn't for her, when she was offered the position of one of the Transfiguration teacher at Hogwarts where she has been for the past few months.

THE SIMPLE TEST
Weight the paragraphs in each Group from 3 to 1, with “3” being the one that best describes your actual behavior.

GROUP 1
  1. [3] - I have tended to be fairly independent and assertive: I’ve felt that life works best when you meet it head-on. I set my own goals, get involved, and want to make things happen. I don’t like sitting around—I want to achieve something big and have an impact. I don’t necessarily seek confrontations, but I don’t let people push me around, either. Most of the time, I know what I want, and I go for it. I tend to work hard and to play hard.

  2. [1] - I have tended to be quiet and am used to being on my own. I usually don’t draw much attention to myself socially, and it’s generally unusual for me to assert myself all that forcefully. I don’t feel comfortable taking the lead or being as competitive as others. Many would probably say that I’m something of a dreamer—a lot of my excitement goes on in my imagination. I can be quite content without feeling I have to be active all the time.

  3. [3] - I have tended to be extremely responsible and dedicated. I feel terrible if I don’t keep my commitments and do what’s expected of me. I want people to know that I’m there for them and that I’ll do what I believe is best for them. I’ve often made great personal sacrifices for the sake of others, whether they know it or not. I often don’t take adequate care of myself—I do the work that needs to be done and relax (and do what I want) if there’s time left.
GROUP 2
  1. [2] - I am a person who usually maintains a positive outlook and feels that things will work out for the best. I can usually find something to be enthusiastic about and different ways to occupy myself. I like being around people and helping others be happy— I enjoy sharing my own well-being with them. (I don’t always feel great, but I generally try not to show it!) However, keeping a positive frame of mind has sometimes meant that I’ve put off dealing with my own problems for too long.

  2. [2] - I am a person who has strong feelings about things—most people can tell when I’m upset about something. I can be guarded with people, but I’m more sensitive than I let on. I want to know where I stand with others and who and what I can count on—it’s pretty clear to most people where they stand with me. When I’m upset about something, I want others to respond and to get as worked up as I am. I know the rules, but I don’t want people telling me what to do. I want to decide for myself.

  3. [3] - I am a person who is self-controlled and logical—I don’t like revealing my feelings or getting bogged down in them. I am efficient—even perfectionistic—about my work, and prefer working on my own. If there are problems or personal conflicts, I try not to let my feelings influence my actions. Some say I’m too cool and detached, but I don’t want my private reactions to distract me from what’s really important. I’m glad that I usually don’t show my reactions when others “get to me.”
