● The Nitty-Gritty
PB: Sarah Wayne Callies
Appearance: Sarah stands at 5'7 and is quite pretty to look at. She has long brown hair, brown eyes and pale skin. She is quite thin to the point she has to be careful not to miss any meals but she is healthy nonetheless. Her fashion style is either corporate if she is at work or jeans and blouses when she isn't. She does have skirts and dresses to wear out of work as well.
While she is on the prettier side when it comes to her looks, she has an air of sadness about her that sometimes is more pronounced than others. Over the years, she’s learned how to control her looks in order to maintain a ‘poker face’ to stop her emotions from showing too much. When she’s happy though, her entire face lights up and results in what her children have called the ‘Dumbledore twinkle’ in her eyes. As the years passed she has grown a lot happier than she used to be and she can be found with a small smile upon her face.
As a memento from her early adult years (she was nineteen) she has a tattoo of a dove on her right hip though very few people are aware of this.
Personality: Sarah is the type of person that you go to when you need something done or someone to lead a project. She's a hard worker, no nonsense, dedicated person with excellent leadership skills. Even if she can be rather bossy at times, she had learned to step back and listen to other people, give them a chance to speak their minds as she has grown older. From a young age she was always quite reliable and would do whatever was needed and could be trusted to look after her younger siblings even when she was quiet young too.
Despite being a leader, Sarah is on the quieter side when it comes to her personality. She isn't the type of person to go out and party all weekend (ignoring her age, obviously but she was never one to do that as it was). She much prefers a good movie/book/television, a glass of wine with her family and friends.
While it has lessoned as she has grown older, just because she has learned to listen to other people, she can be fairly stubborn at times and doesn't like being told that she is wrong. Oh she can admit it, she just doesn't like it and it is something that she has taught herself over the years. Not surprising, she loves a good friendly debate on what is right and what is wrong over certain issues.
Despite being stubborn, Sarah detests fights and seeing people fighting and will try her hardest to keep the peace between people. Especially as a teacher at Saint Margaret's she goes out of her way to do so, especially with her fellow teachers. To her it would be a bad thing to have the students see the teachers not getting on with each other - even if it is quite obvious to her that not all of them like each other.
Sarah has always loved children. Perhaps it has something to do with helping raise her siblings when she was younger but she has always enjoyed spending time around them, teaching them what she knows and making sure they don't misbehave. As a teacher she enjoys seeing them flourish and learn under her guidance and now as the principal she is working on ways that will benefit them in ways she couldn't before.
A secret romantic at heart (only known to her husband and closest friends), she loves romantic dinners, happy endings and true love stories. Tony quickly learned the way to her heart and for her to have the best time on a date - besides being with him, was a romantic candlelight dinner, soft classical movie and just a night with themselves. She truly hopes that everyone can have the perfect marriage or relationship with someone at least at some point in their life.
Powers: Witch - skilled in enchantments, illusions and glamours she's also more than adept at wand magic and charms with a tiny hint of healing magic. She is near disastrous when it comes to elemental magic though, which upset her at first as she always dreamed of being able to control the elements, well as curses and voodoo magic. The latter just creeps her out though so she's never really tried her hardest how to do it.
Special skills: Is highly creative and skilled with words, is a decent cook
History: Sarah Stokes was the oldest of the siblings born to Catherine and Matthew Stokes. Perhaps it was due to that, she was destined to become a teacher and then principal of a school. Her early years were spent helping her parents with the other children as she was six when the next one came along. She was a natural at getting along with children and getting them to behave.
At school, this was obvious as well. She found that she made friends easily though she did have a habit of making the other children annoyed at her at times with how bossy she was, having to take control of a situation and do things her own way. The mix of getting along well with people and having to take control of the situation left her with some enemies, frenemies and plenty of followers who did what she wanted.
As the school years progressed, she did well at school and settled down into her own friendship group, though she always remained the dominant person in the group and even the year. If the year needed a leader for something she was nearly always chosen due to her personality and leadership skills.
Her home life was doing just as well, despite the age difference she got on well with her siblings and often taught them things when she wasn't playing with them. Of course, like all people they had their own interests and moments when they disagreed with one another but she knew they would do anything for her and vice versa.
Entering high school, she developed a passion for English and History, which she would go on to teach once she had her degree. Her other subjects were alright, mostly due to her hard working nature but she was fairly average at them despite that. The only subject she continually failed at was sport.
It was only a couple of months into year 7, a few months after she turned thirteen that her life changed. She had always suspected that there was something different about her but she didn’t know what it was. That was until one of the parents of her old school friends turned up to explain to herself that she was a witch. While it seemed outrageous at first she realised that it actually wasn't when she sat down and thought of it.
She’d noticed the first things a few years ago when she started to go through puberty. The biggest one was her ability to ‘hide’ pimples that would appear. She always knew they were still there but no one else could. Sarah hadn’t realised straight away what she was doing but it wasn’t until her best friend started to go on about how she never developed pimples (she had one at the time!) that she truly started to suspect that something was up.
A lot of trial and error, led Sarah, after a few months to be able to consciously being able to control what she was doing.
Her parents didn’t believe her at first. They weren't sensitive enough to their own magic and tended to accept things at face value. It wasn’t until her Grandmother overheard an argument that she explained the truth, that her mother had been a Witch herself.
So, half way through year 8, she moved to America and started to attend St Margaret’s. It took a lot of work to convince her family to do so but her Grandmother, along with the representative insisted it was for the best. Soon, despite technically starting ‘year 8’ again, Sarah settled into school and quickly began to enjoy this ~fantasy~ world that she was now living in.
She was asked out on her first date at the age of fifteen by a boy she had been crushing on for a couple of months now. The two of them dated for a couple of months before he broke up with her and started to date her best friend. That didn't go over well and she stopped talking to either of them. In the end though her friend realized her mistake and broke it off with him and mended their friendship. They're still best friends to this day.
As her years at St Margaret’s progressed, she focused on her work, determined to get the necessary score to make it into a good college to study teaching. Even though she was living in the ~fantasy world~ she had a strong desire to teach at a primary school in Australia. She missed her home a lot, not only was it home something, as much as she enjoyed St M’s, it would never be but she also missed her family who she rarely got to see. Despite that she still had fun with her friends and date a few guys from her school and others that she knew. None of them were all that serious though.
After graduating, she applied to attend the University of Melbourne to take undertake their Teaching course in Primary Education. Completing it, alongside an Arts degree in which she majored in Writing and Editing (Double degree of Primary Education/Writing & Editing). She made a lot of friends during her years there and during her third year she had started to date Tony. After graduating she and Tony were married in a small ceremony with their friends and family. Not long after that, their daughter Cecelia was born and three years later their son Robert joined the world, much to her delight.
Life was brilliant for her and while she didn’t have much to do with the magical world, she made sure to keep her skills up to date, to continually practice her magic to keep it from harming her. It wasn’t until she was thirty, Robert her youngest was only two at the time that her life was turned upside down once again.
To this day she doesn’t know the exact details of what happened and honestly doesn’t want to know but coming home from work one day, she found a note from Tony on the counter along with divorce papers explaining that he had met and fell in love with someone else.
If it wasn’t for her children, Sarah had no idea what she would have done. Deciding she needed a break, to get away for a while, she contacted a friend of hers from St Margaret’s who she was still in contact with about possibly coming back to the school to teach. It was pure luck that the previous teacher for Creative Writing had just retired and they were looking for a new one.
Packing up her two children, Robert two and Cecelia five, the three of them farewelled her family once again and moved back to St Margaret’s. Not moving into campus but instead finding a small house for the three of them in the neighbouring village, she settled into her new life. It was hard at first but with the help of some friends she made and her sister Catherine who joined them there a few weeks later, her own marriage breaking down, Sarah managed to balance her work life with raising her two children.
If it wasn't for Catherine, who looked after her children more than she did when it came down to it, she probably wouldn't have managed. She, against her sisters wish made sure to actually pay Catherine for all the work she did with Robert and Cecelia.
Three years after they moved to Camden Wharf, Catherine introduce her to Melissa. Sarah had known she was bisexual for years but had never actually said anything about it to anyone as she’d only been dating guys. She honestly wasn’t all that surprised that her sister knew though. The two of them discovered they got on well and three months after meeting fell into a relationship which has lasted the previous five years. While these days, Sarah also has quarters on campus at the school, she spends half the week living in the town with her family.
Two years ago, the teacher for Illusions and Glamours officially took her on as an assistant instructor, something she’s been enjoying teacher as her skills has always lay with those and enchantments in general.

Future Prospects:
- Be an awesome teacher
- I'd love for her children (Cecelia is 13 atm) to end up attending St M's in one way or another. I have this thought that Melissa is also somehow connected to the school though I haven't specified exactly how that's the case
- I'd love for her to form/join a Witches Coven/Circle
- I'd lover for her to eventually find out what happened with Tony - I for some reason think that it wasn't actually what he said but there's a deeper, darker reason for the divorce
- To continue to work on her magical skills. She believes that one will never stop learning
