PersonalityOne of the very first things that someone will notice about Cole is that he's quiet. Cole has never been one to talk much and will only speak when he has something to say, never just for the sake of it. This is perhaps one of the reasons he makes such a good pair with Emma, because she does all the talking. Ever. One of his other more defining traits is that he doesn't suffer fools lightly. If you do something stupid chances are he'll call you on it and rather sarcastically at that too. He can't help it. Really. He values intelligence, patience and clarity of mind when it comes to dealing with people. Those people who talk before the speak, rush into things and are just general dumb grate on his nerves, a lot.
That isn't to say that he is always sensible either. Cole, has gotten into his fair share of trouble over the years. Mostly, these are situations when he goes above and beyond to protect his friends, even taking the blame for something he hasn't done. This is actually why he was kicked out of the FBI despite everyone thinking he was going to quickly climb through the ranks because he was just that good at his job. One of his friends made a mistake and not wanting to see them in trouble he claimed that it was himself. His clearance was removed and while the friend protested Cole didn't back down. That and the fact he has a temper that he has lost just one to many times in relation to an investigation... Since moving to Havenwood he has tried his hardest to improve it. He still loses it when people annoy him though and he tends to say things he will often regret later when he does lose it.
Cole, joined the FBI due to his ambitious to not only succeed and climb ranks which was possible within the company but also his desire and need to help people. He has always viewed himself as the 'underdogs man' and tries his hardest to help people in need. He wants to see justice done, especially as the fact his father who was murdered when Cole was ten, was never brought to justice the police unable to find enough evidence to persecute someone. Cole dreams, to this day of finally being able to close his father's case.
Cole, despite his temper and inability to suffer fools is actually quite intelligent, though he might not show it often. He might not be Mensa material but he's always been good at picking up patterns and analysing things which is one of the reasons he's such a great detective. That and his drive not to let a person go unpunished.
Abilities & SkillsAnalytical Cole is great at analysing thing. It's why he's been so successful at the FBI and now the Havenwood Police
Pays attention to detail/excellent memory: Cole spots things that many people don't and often remembers the small details
Poker: He's a great Poker player.
HistoryCole Harper is the only child born to Colleen and Brendon Harper of Washington, DC and was very much a surprise for them as they had been informed that Colleen was unable to have children of their own. That didn't mean he was unwanted, far from it in fact. As much of a surprise that he was, his parents tried his hardest not to spoil him growing up though his grandparents often would get away with a lot not that he minded. For the first ten years of his life, things were great. He was close to his parents, loved his grandparents, had a lot of friends and did great at school. He also played baseball though he wasn't the best at it.
It was two months after his tenth birthday that things changed for the Harper family and Cole decided to enter law enforcement. It started off as any old day for the family. Cole had said goodbye to his parents went off to school and then a friends place afterwards to play some games. Two hours later, his grandparents were picking him up and his world was shattered. His father's body had been found murdered just after lunch. Cole didn't want to believe it but unfortunately it was true.
Cole watched the police try to solve the crime, praying that they would. His mother didn't take the death of her husband well and withdrew into herself leaving her parents to mostly raise Cole. Three months later, the police informed them that they didn't have enough evidence to bring anyone to justice but they wouldn't give up. Twenty-five years later, the crime is still unsolved. It was at that moment though that Cole decided he was going to into Law Enforcement and not allow anyone else to go through the same thing that they had, he would bring the closure that they lacked to other families.
By the time Cole finished High School, he excelled at science and maths through both natural talent but also sheer determination. Attending College, Cole completed a Bachelor's in Science before going on to study a Master's in Crimonology before applying for a Graduate Program at the FBI. Cole wasn't sure if he would be accepted but he thought he would try anyway. By working for them he thought he could do a lot more help than in the general local police force. Surprisingly, he was accepted into the program.
Cole quickly made a name for himself as a hard worker, someone who was willing to go an extra mile and according to the staff in their private conversations, someone who would quickly advance during the ranks. He loved the challenge the FBI faced for him, in fact he thrived on it. It was during these training years that he met Candace. The two of them hit off nearly straight away and it wasn't long until the two of them began to date. Over the years, Cole continued to prove himself and Candace stuck around too surprisingly as previously none of his relationships had lasted that long.
Three years after they met, the two of them were married in a small ceremony.
Three weeks later his mother passed away and he took a month worth of leave.
Moving back to Langly, Cole devoted himself to his job spending more time there than at home. Thankfully Candace understood and supported him during this time. By this time, their relationship was rather rocky and Cole was losing his temper more and more. He was still doing quite well at his job so his boss was willing to overlook it. For the moment.
The next few months continued to be rocky but Candace was determined to stick it out. She was about to suggest couples counselling when their life took an unexpected turn. One of Cole's friends had made a stupid mistake with a suspect. Cole lost his temper and took the blame for the mistake. He was aware that the boss was getting rather sick of his temper and had wanted him to clean up though he was struggling to do so. He didn't even think about it until it was too late.
Cole was kicked out of the FBI.
Candace, took the opportunity to talk to him after this and the two of them decided it was time to start afresh. Having just recently discovered that she was pregnant, Candace resigned from the FBI and the two of them moved to Havenwood where Cole managed to gain a position with the local police department.
Over the years, he's faced some mysterious events that he hasn't been unable to explain which has rather annoyed him. He's tried his hardest to do his absolute best and he has gained a reputation of having a high crime solve rate. Candace and him have mended their relationship and are now raising two children - Jake who is four and Sophia who is eighteen months.
As much as he loves his job though, Cole is getting rather confused and exasperated by some of the events that happen in the town, having no idea that the supernatural actually exist.
