| PERSONALITY |
Laura Roslin is, at first glance not someone you would expect to go into politics. In fact, she didn't want to but only did it as she was asked to do so. She is someone who thinks with her head, who is passionate about what she believes in and will fight for it until her dying breath. Despite that, she is able to see the larger picture and do things that she might not necessarily like to do, especially once she is President of the Colonies. She's dedicated to her cause and especially to protecting everyone under her care. To her this is the most important thing along with finding Earth and repopulating the human race. Once she has something to fight for, she will fight for it no matter what happens even if not everyone agrees with it. Laura is figuratively and literally a soft-voiced person. Even when angry or upset she is never one to lose her temper, instead will speak softly and logically in regards to the matter that has her upset or arguing with another person. She does this, believing it is more effective than losing her temper outright. That isn't to say she won't let her frustrations out in private though. She has a great sense of loyalty, not only to her friends and family but to the colonies. While she has gone against their wishes at times, it was only when she believed it to be the correct thing to do for everyone. Even then, it wasn't done without pain. While she wasn't originally of religious belief, after learning about the prophecy, her sense of obligation to getting the civilians to Earth grew even more so to the point where she would do anything to ensure that it happened. When she takes people into her heart, she trusts and believes in them completely Despite having terminal cancer, Laura hates appearing weak in front of others and will do anything she can to hide it. She is also willing to take unusual methods such as her first medication to treat the cancer, in an effort to hide her illness from the fleet, though she informed a few trusted people of it. Despite not originally being one for politics, Laura does have a feel for it and is able to manipulate people into doing what she wants them to do, even if she doesn't like having to do it. she does it because it is for the betterment of the civilians and military that she leads. |
| HISTORY |
| Laura is the oldest of three daughters born to two school teachers, her sisters being called Cheryl and Sandra. The family of five lived a happy, peaceful life for many years. In fact, it was quite the standard family. All of them did well at school and Laura dreamed of following her mother's footsteps to become a school teacher, something as she got older realised was perfect for her. During her school years, she enjoyed subjects such as English and literature, enjoying the chance to study and explore theories and the like. She did quite well at her other subjects too. Like most teenagers, she went through a rebellious stage. Hers involved dying her hair various colours from blond to purple much to the annoyance of her parents. Even into her early twenties she had blond hair though once she started searching for a job she stopped dying her hair - at least outrageous colours, she would occasionally add a tint to her hair but nothing drastic. Over the years, she dated a few men but she focused a lot on her job, never having a serious relationship. When she was thirty, her mother was, unfortunately, diagnosed with cancer and Laura took to looking after her, especially as the cancer progressed eventually resulting in her death. She continued to work as a teacher for the next seven years before she entered politics under the mayoral administration of Richard Adar before reluctantly joining him on his campaign to become president, before he named her the Secretary of Education. It was around then that she started to have an affair with him, regardless of him being married. It was something she would become to regret though after awhile. The day of the Cylon attack was full of surprises for her. For awhile, the teachers had been striking and she finally came to an agreement with the leader of the strike - stop and the Government would listen to them. Unfortunately, this was just after she was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. Adar doesn't agree with how she dealt with the teacher's strike and asks for her to resign and in reply, she asks him to delay this discussion until she returns from the decommissioning of the Battlestar Galactica. Except, she never does return to have this discussion. On the way back to Caprica, they receive word of the attack by the Cylon's. Laura, being a member of the Government, took charge of the situation though at first not everyone agreed with this decision. Her ship starts to discover survivors and it wasn't long until Case Orange is picked up by the wireless, responding to it, it doesn't take long for her to learn she is the highest ranking member of Government alive and is to assume the Presidency of the twelve colonies. Things don't go smoothly for her though, the military, in particular Commander Adama don't accept her rule thinking this is a military situation. In time, she comes to convince them that it is best to work together though even then things don't go as smoothly as they might. During the first month, not only does she try to continually escape the Cylon's but she has to work on forming a Government and a working relationship with Adama. This month was filled with hard decisions such as the destruction of the Olympic Carrier which they suspected to be tracked by the Cylon's. This was also the time when they decided to keep the fact that Cylon's know look human a secret from the public in order to stop them from panicking, unfortunately, this would end up badly for them in the future. As the months pass, including hostage situations, more attacks by Cylon's, Galactica being tampered with, a suicide bombing that brings to truth about the Cylon's and the standard method of executing them by chucking them out of an airlock and the discovery of Kobol things were never quiet for Laura. Doctor Cottle, confirmed that her cancer was inoperable and she had months to live. She decided to take chamalla as a treatment though it wasn't proven and unfortunately she suffered some visions as a side effect. This lead her to believing she was the leader spoken of in the prophecy of Pythia written 3,600 years ago concerning the exodus of humankind, which foretells that a dying leader will guide the remaining members of mankind to the promised land. Believing this lead to some disastrous events including her informing Kara Thrace of the Arrow of Apollo, the truth about Earth and Kobol which leads to the splitting of the Fleet. Unfortunately, this leads to Adama arresting her when she refuses to resign as president though she peacefully surrenders to avoid bloodshed. After escaping with the help of Lee Adama who sided with her and Tom Zarek, despite not trusting him, Laura, with her followers return to Kobol, the land of her ancestors. From there, they start the search of the Tomb of Athena. During their trip, Adama and a group of people meet up with them including her assistant and the person she sees as a son - Billy much to her delight. It is there that they work out their differences. Finally, they discover the tomb and the location of Earth before joining the fleet back together again. After this, Adama and Roslin's relationship grows closer and they form a close friendship and a good working relationship. Unfortunately, it was around this time that Laura was told that she only had weeks left to live and started to put her affairs in order. This was interrupted by the discovery of the Battlestar Pegasus. It wasn't an easy time for her with Admiral Cain refusing to accept her as president which nearly resulted in an armed standoff between Cain and Adama. It was after this when she and Adama plotted to assassinate Cain, though this plan didn't go through. Instead, Cain was murdered by a Cylon. After Cain's death, Laura promoted Adama to Admiral after which he gives her a quick kiss. At this time, she requires help moving around and quickly deteriorated health wise until she was rushed to the Galactica's infirmary where she lay dying. It was here she remembered seeing Baltar with a Cylon just hours before his attack that made her suspicious of him. It was at the last minute that Baltar came up with a cure for her using the blood of the hybrid cylon/human child that Sharon, a Cylon and ex-member of the Galactica crew was carrying. After she was cured, she asks Baltar to step down as the vice president but when he doesn't it spells the beginning of her loathing him. It wasn't long after this that she returned to work and aimed for her reelection that was coming up. Unfortunately, her life was turned upside down after a hostage situation went wrong and Billy was killed. |

<aura's first reaction to arriving in the new place was that it was another vision, even if she was no longer taking her medication after being cured of her cancer. It was like no vision she had before though and the explanation... Well, it didn't sound like one. Listening to the explanation, she took a deep breath and tried to take it all in. She knew it was highly unlikely if impossible for her to travel to another dimension, but that was what she was claiming. What she also knew was that the person she had considered a son had just died and she could very well be hallucinating though she had no idea why she would be hallucinating this. Plus if she was she wouldn't think that she was hallucinating which ruled it out.
She was also well aware that she needed to be on Colonial One or Galactica with the upcoming election and to keep everything in order.
"Alright," she said taking another deep breath. "So if what you are saying is true then there is truly no way to return home?" she confirmed. "We are also on Earth?" she asked thinking of what else they had told her. She had searched for Earth for months, but this was nothing like she had imagined or how she would have found it, she should have found it with the rest of the Fleet. In her dreams, she would have stood by Adama as they found it, celebrated it together but he and the rest of her people were nowhere in sight.
