CHARACTER HISTORY

Anne was born to Walter and Bertha Shirley on 21 March 1865 in Bolingbroke, Nova Scotia. Unfortunately, the two of them died of scarlet fever when Anne was only three months old. From there she was moved from family to family. She lived with the Thomas's until she was nine and it was here that she 'met' her imaginary friend, Violet. After Mr Thomas's death by a train, she moved to the Hammond house hold where she was essentially a free servant to their eight children. She hated it but did what she had to.

She thankfully was there only for two years before Mr Hammond passed away and she was sent to an orphanage, for a couple of months. The orphanage wasn't much better but she got on well with a couple of the staff, though the majority of them weren't all that fond of her.

It was here that the fateful error was made. The Cuthbert's requested a boy to help out on the farm but for some reason she was sent to them instead. At first they weren't sure about keeping her, but in the end they decided to despite the fact that she couldn't help out on the farm, which was what they originally wanted a boy to do.

It wasn't long after arriving at Green Gables that she displayed her temper both to Gilbert Blythe when he called her "Carrot" which resulted in her breaking her chalk board over his head and Mrs. Rachel Lynde after she spoke her mind about the colour of Anne's hair. Despite that, she did make a best friend and 'bosom buddy' in Daina Barry, a girl who lived not far from Green Gables. The first three weeks of school went well until that incident with Gilbert, which resulted in the biggest rivalry that the school had known. Anne had always enjoyed learning and it was no different here.

The next day, after being forced to sit next to Gilbert, Anne decided to leave school something that Marilla finally agreed to at the persusion of Mrs Lynde, as long as she continued to do her work. That didn't mean the year wasn't eventful, far from it in fact.

In October, Diana was invited over for tea while Marilla was out. Unfortunately Anne served her currant wine instead of Raspberry Cordial as the bottles were similar and Diana became drunk. Mrs Barry informed Anne that she could no longer be friends with her daughter. This changed in January though, when Diana visited Green Gables, frantic as her younger sister Minnie May was sick with Croup. Having dealt with it before, while she was at the Hammond's, Anne went with Diana and saved Minnie May's life, at which point Mrs Barry forgave her.

When she was thirteen, Anne was dared to walk the ridgepole of the roof which she willingly did. Unfortunately, Anne fell and broke her ankle and had to be carried home. While she was healing, she received plenty of visitors as she was well loved by the people of the village by this stage.

In October of that year, Anne was back in school under the new teacher Miss Stacy who Anne adored. When Miss Stacy, decided to put on a Christmas concert she was chosen as a part of a tableau with Diana and Ruby Gillis another classmate of theirs as well as to recite two pieces. For Christmas, she was given a dress that she loved - with the fashionable puffed sleeves and all from Matthew, which she absolutely adored. During this year, she and a few other girls also formed a story club where they wrote romance stories that contained morals. Anne, would later look back at these with a friend and laugh at their attempts though she would go on to rewrite one of them.

This wasn't the end of her adventures though. When Anne was fourteen, she decided she no longer wanted red hair and bought hair dye off a pedlar that was supposed to turn her hair black. Unfortunately it turned it green and Marilla had to cut it off in a short style due to how quickly the dye acted.

Not long after that, Gilbert asked for her forgiveness for calling her carrot, having not been forgiven despite it being a number of years since the incident. Anne being stubborn, refused to forgive him despite him rescuing her from the river where her boat had sunk while playing Lily Maid with the other girls.

That November, Gilbert and Anne joined the class that Miss Stacy organised for those who wanted to go on to study at Queen's College which didn't help the rivalry between the two of them, but in fact made it worse. Both of them were determined to top the class, something they both had the talent and ambition to do so.

During the entrance exam, Anne and Gilbert tied for first place, meaning they would both get to attend Queen's College. Once attending their, she took the accelerated course, finishing her education within a year. Despite that she won the Avery Scholarship, which would pay for part of her education at Redmond College. While she won this, Gilbert won the Gold Medal, their rivalry still going strong.

Not long after this, Matthew unfortunately passed away. In a moment of selflessness, Anne decided to forgo her education at Redmond College to stay at Green Gables with Marilla to prevent it being sold. She originally planned to teach at the Carmody school, but Gilbert who was to teach at the Avonlea school, heard of her plans and convinced the trustees to give the position to Anne instead. It was then that she finally swallowed her pride and told Gilbert that she forgave him.

PERSONALITY

Anne has a sort of personality that when provoked suits the colour of her hair. She is well know, especially when she was younger, for how quickly she could become mad, if she was provoked in anyway. Something that Gilbert Blythe quickly learned when he called her Carrot. As she grew older, she learned to control her temper though it never left her - she just became more aware of the fallout of loosing it.

Despite her temper, Anne was a cheerful and happy person who enjoyed spending time with her friends and coming up with stories such as the Lady of the Lake that she performed with her best friend Diane. It wasn't just stories that she enjoyed but picnics and just generally spending time with other people.

While she is a lot more careful now that she is older, she has been known to make some stupid, careless mistakes over the years. Some of these incidents turned out to be fairly bad, some embarrassing and some thankfully fairly harmless.

If Anne is anything else, she is determined and hates giving up. She will work her backside off until she achieves something, hates being shown up by anyone else. She also hates anything that falls out of stuff she likes or accepts. A good example of this is her hatred of people spelling her name 'Ann' and not 'Anne', something she insists on quite forcefully.

While Anne is incredibly stubborn and hates admitting she is wrong, she is also incredibly loyal to those she calls friends and family. Even if she originally hates them. She will do anything to protect them and keep them happy. She will defend them to her last breathe, even if she doesn't always agree with them. No matter how loyal she is, that doesn't stop her from arguing with them, voicing her views without really thinking about what will happen from just speaking her mind.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Anne is quite intelligent, determined and stubborn if that counts!

CANON PUNCTURE

WRITING SAMPLES

(We need at least two writing samples - one log style, 3rd person limited tense, and the other network style, 1st person tense. Give us a big enough sample that we can really see your writing. Linking to other places where you have played this character is fine, just be sure the scene isn't friends-locked. Writing samples are not necessary if you are already in game.)
