He's a highly perceptive and wise individual and often can sense when things are off before his boss, Oliver, does. In fact he often picks up on things to which Oliver is totally oblivious. He was hired by Oliver's mother as a bodyguard for her son and was the first to notice that Oliver had symptoms of PTSD as a result of his time on the island. He was able to convince Oliver to open up a bit to him and this was one of the reasons why Oliver trusted him with his secret. After joining forces with Oliver, Diggle has often been the voice of reason, encouraging Oliver to find a different way of dealing with his enemies other than killing them. He provides wise counsel and although he and Oliver don't always see eye to eye, Diggle is not afraid to tell him what he thinks or to take a stand if he feels Oliver is in the wrong. In short, he doesn't take any crap off Oliver or off anyone else for that matter. Disciplined and level headed after his time in the military, Diggle tries to approach everything with a cool head and a calm manner. He has a strong sense of justice and honor, believing that it's important to always try to do the right thing. Diggle has a dry sense of humor, often saying things that make everyone wonder if they actually heard what he said. He doesn't smile much but the truth is that inside, he is unfailingly loyal to those he cares about and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe.
