APPEARANCE! Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric James is a Potter through and through with his dark black messy hair, blue eyes and glasses. Standing at 6'2, he stands slightly taller than his father. He's muscular but not overly so and fairly lean despite that. Given his personality, he does have a mischievous look about him. Despite that it's the type of mischievous look that you can't help but trust, the look of someone who knows what they are talking about - even when they're being silly/mucking around. Due to this he's gotten a lot of people over the years to do some rather stupid things by making them believe that it is a serious thing. While he is no longer as arrogant as he was while he was at Hogwarts, James still is somewhat arrogant and it shows in the way he holds himself and the way he moves. Some people might mistake this for self-confidence, which in someways it is because he is comfortable with how he is but at the same time he knows he is better than others. This isn't the way many Pureblood Purists act arrogant but more he is confident in his abilities and knows what he is capable of. While he is a Noble and knows how to dress properly for formal occasions, he prefers to dress for comfort more than anything else. He often dresses in a style that is looked down on by other Nobles but he doesn't care, he prefers to be comfortable and happy in whatever it is that he is wearing. Of course, since marrying Lily, she has had a lot of say in how he dresses and makes sure he is at least presentable at all times but the comfort rule will always apply. Since his fifth year at Hogwarts, James has also been an animagus along with his friends Peter and Sirius due to Remus being a werewolf. He takes the form of a Stag, with a regal bearing which isn't at all surprising for those that know him. PB: John Oliver
PERSONALITY! Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric James Potter is a complex person when it comes to his personality. Most people would call him relaxed, fun loving and loyal - all things that he certainly is but there is a lot more to him too. James was born into a Noble family and was brought up in and around other Nobles and the Royal family. Even knowing how to behave in those situations, from a young age, James wouldn't behave properly just finding it boring. It was so much more fun to cause mischief and enjoy himself. While it exasperated his parents, they did tend to dote on him so he was never seriously punished so he never truly learned that it was a bad thing to do. Between this and his love of pranks, it isn't a surprise that he was often in trouble with other adults, families and then the teachers at school. He unfortunately didn't learn the lesson that pranks should be funny to everyone and not cruel until it was too late and Remus nearly attacked Severus in the shrieking shack. If it wasn't the fact that Sirius was the prince and James a good friend of his then they might have been very well expelled but Dumbledore would never do that to his pet Gryffindor's, especially a Royal who didn't like his family. Eventually, James did mature though and start to learn that lesson. That isn't to say he dislikes pranks now, that is far from the truth - he loves them but he knows how to keep them lighthearted and never cross the line like they often did at Hogwarts. A lot of that does have to do with Lily of course... James has always been an exceptionally bright person but unfortunately he never had to work hard to get good marks which led to him to misbehave a lot in classes and generally not pay attention, especially in Transfiguration which came naturally to him. He also excelled in Defense and Charms - the wand subjects were by far his strongest ones and unlike Remus he didn't have the patience for the theory based ones or Potions for that matter. James is incredibly loyal to his friends and family, especially those friends that he considers honorary family - the Marauders and their families are included in that. He would never betray those who he calls friends and would do anything to protect them - including becoming an illegal animagus to help Remus during his monthly transformation. Being spoiled by his parents and having so many things come naturally to him, he can be rather arrogant at times taking his self confidence just a level to far. Between that and his popularity, he expects a lot of things to go his way and thinks that he can get away with just about anything. Of course, since graduating and marrying Lily, this side of him has lessened but he still knows he is one of the best damn Auror's out there and knows he is highly capable of taking on pretty much any bad guy easily and isn't afraid to show it either. The biggest cause of his personality change between when he was younger and now is not only his mother's death but also his relationship with Lily. After Dorea died, James grieved a lot and even became slightly depressed and didn't really enjoy what he was interested in. Lily though made him start to live again though due to her influence and stubbornness for following rules he wasn't anywhere as rowdy as he used to be in his previous years. Now, he is still stubborn, still enjoys a good prank but never crosses that line - he would like to avoid Lily being furious at him thank you very much. All in all, his dating Lily and then subsequent marriage and the death of his mother were what needed him to see the world wasn't black and white, wasn't all fun and games but was a world where bad things happened and that there were lines that you shouldn't cross.
HISTORY! Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric James Charlus Potter was born on the 27th of March 1960, to Dorea Black and Charlus Potter. He was their only child and was therefore spoiled quite a bit. Growing up he was never truly punished for his transgression - he was grounded a couple of times for his more serious misdemeanors but besides that they never really did anything. Of course, at an early age, James did learn on how to make people believe it wasn't him who had done whatever it was though sometimes it was obvious that it was him no matter how much he tried to deny it. There were the occasional joke that he claimed as his upfront because he loved it that much. While he met Sirius at the age of nine, it wasn't until they were both sorted into Gryffindor that they truly became friends and realised how similar they were. The two of them hit off straight away and quickly became best friends and despite their behaviour towards some of the other students - mainly Severus Snape, they were surprisingly popular but at the same time Sirius was the crown prince and James the heir to one of the Noble families. Of course not everyone liked them - the most notable one of them being Lily Evans, who James unfortunately had a major crush on from the very beginning even if he wasn't already in love with her. It wasn't long before the two of them were joined by Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew the two other boys in their dormitory. Both of them were fairly quiet - Remus was the bookish one and Peter was just shy and not all that confident but the four of them became firm friends known as the Marauders. It was a surprising friendship between the four of them but it worked. James found, that he never really had to work at classes to do well which meant he used his spare time to muck around and pass notes within the classes to his friends and various girls - including Lily who would just glare at him. They got in trouble a lot, Professor McGonagall, who was their favourite teacher nearly always ended up giving them a detention in each of her classes but they didn't mind. They just wanted to spend time with Minnie! (Seriously, they weren't at all bothered by the detentions or loss of house points, they would always win them back in Quidditch or Remus and Lily would in answering questions). Having always been a natural on a broom it wasn't surprising when James was accepted onto the Quidditch team as one of the chasers, which he excelled at, though many said he would have made an excellent seeker too. It was during their second year at Hogwarts, that James figured out Remus's secret and instead of pushing him away, they accepted him even more to the point that the three other boys learned how to become illegal animagi in order to be able to spend the full moon's with him. Those nights turned into some of the best of his school years. Their fifth year didn't end on that good a note with James once again making Lily furious at him, this time over his behaviour to Severus after their DADA OWL - though Severus had been just as cruel to Lily when she came to defend him. The following year, was mostly uneventful besides the completion of the Marauders Map which they had been working on since their fourth year in order to be able to sneak out to spend the full moon's with Moony when they grew to big to fit under James's invisibility cloak. The end of their sixth year nearly tore the boys friendship apart when Sirius sent Severus to face Remus on the full moon. James, after finding out what he had done raced to find the Slytherin and in the end saved his life - which Snape hated with a passion. That summer wasn't easy either, his mother who was fairly old by that time developed Dragon Pox and having been sick on and off for years didn't have the best immune system and unfortunately died three weeks into the holidays. James was absolutely devastated by this and it made him realise that the world wasn't just fun and games like he had believed up until now. During the rest of the holidays, he mostly kept to himself, did his homework and studied - he didn't even go out flying. It concerned his friends and family a lot but he was grieving for his mother and there wasn't a lot that could be done. Perhaps it was because Dumbledore, being a friend of his father's was aware of this, perhaps not as James has never known for sure but he was offered the Head boy badge much to his surprise. His seventh year he was completely different. He barely participated in pranks at first and started to enforce rules that he used to break a lot - the only thing he didn't do was quit the Quidditch Team as it was the one outlet he had from all of this. It was during this year that he finally managed to strike up a friendship with Lily, who was actually the one to pull him out of the funk and eventually led to the mending of the boys friendship which had been rocky ever since the Shack incident which they never spoke of. Finally, graduation came and then came his marriage to his one and true love, Lily Evans much to his delight. Oh and Auror training but besides his marriage that really didn't matter though he did do exceptionally well at it. Not even a year later Lily found herself pregnant with the first of their three children - Harry James who was born on July 31 1980. Afterwards there were two girls born ___ and ___. His children were the love of his life, well besides Lily, and he spoiled them rotten so it was probably a good thing that Lily was in charge of the punishment. One of the most surprising things of that time was Sirius's marriage to Fiona - James loved it and loved the uproar it caused with the royal family. He had never been fond of that family, well besides Sirius but he didn't count so it was fascinating to watch them react and for him to see Sirius tell them to eff off. Of course, when Sirius was recruited to the rebellion, James joined too and was soon followed by the other two as where one of the boys went, all four of them went. It was good times, those years and while the unrest is growing against the Royal family James is slightly entertained by the thought of what would happen if Sirius became King - even if he knows his best friend and brother in all but blood doesn't want to be King.
