OCCUPATION/SCHOOL: Mentor, Part time Librarian at the Elementary School. PB: Naomi Watts Family Information RELATIVES & LOVED ONES: Mother: Sandra Boyd nee __ (79) √ Father: Simon Boyd (84)√ Brother: Phillip Boyd (53)√ Brother: Jamie Boyd (45) √ Husband: Scott Peterson √ Jennifer has always a daddy's girl, closest to him out of all of her family though out of her siblings she was closest to Jamie who she was closest to in age and temperament with. SEXUALITY: Straight Powers & Skills POWER/ABILITY: Shape Shifting → Animals Strengths: → Jennifer is able to transform into any animal that she has seen in person during her lifetime - this can be in books or television shows as well but she has to know what they look like. → She can communicate with animals both in her human form and when she is shape shifted into an animal though in human form it is limited more to emotions than actual words → She can change the basic appearance as a human (hair, eye, skin colour, shape etc) → She can only change into 'real' animals - not mythical beasts. → She can keep her human mind when she is an animal or she can let the animal mind take over if she wishes too. → When she's transformed she gets all aspects of the animal even with her human mind in control - ie: cheaters speed, bears strength etc. Weaknesses → She cannot change into other people completely → She can't turn into animals for more than 24 hours at a time → If she falls asleep she will turn back into her natural form → When she transforms her clothes that aren't tight don't transform (knickers and a bra are the only things at the moment) → As a human she can transform into mammals the easiest (dogs, cats, bears, horses etc) she can transform into reptiles and birds but it takes much longer to do so and she can't hold the form for as long as if it was a mammal due to the difference in body structures. → She can't change her actual skeleton → To transform she has to have a clear image of the animal in her head. What is she working on? → Being able to be transformed for a longer amount of time → To make her all her clothes appear with her → To transform her human features → To transform into animals she hasn't seen before (she's had zero success with this so far and doesn't know if she will) → Transforming to one animal to another without turning back into a human - similar animals such as a cat to a dog is something she can do but she would have to turn back into her human form to turn from a cat to a bird. → She's trying to gain the ability to change genders of the animals she turns into but at the moment it isn't possible and she isn't sure if it will be in the future either. → She is working on being able to transform into Mythical creatures though as with the real ones she has to know what they look like. What could she do to begin with? → She had to have seen the animal in the flesh → She could only change into mammals for a short period of time → She could only change her hair and eye colour → She could only transform for less than an hour → She couldn't transform her clothes and would end up naked when she transformed back. → It used to hurt quite a lot when she transformed but as she got more and more used to her body changing form the less it hurt. Misc. → Since developing her ability she has learned as much about the animals she transforms into as possible to prepare herself. Even ones that she hasn't yet transformed into. → She never turns into insects if she can help it but that's due to her being scared of them more than anything else. → She also doesn't transform into fish - despite the myth about a three second memory being disproved it is something she is still hesitant to do just because she grew up with that fish. She'd like to remember how to transform back and what she is doing in that form thank you very much! In Depth PERSONALITY: Jennifer is intelligent if her test scores were anything to go by but she has never been the hardest of workers so in the end most viewed her as a rather average sort of person during her schooling. To her there were better things to do such as spend time with her friends and playing with the dogs that she had while growing up. Of course, her parents did try and get her to settle down and work harder and she did but only around the time of her SATs and so forth - exams that truly mattered in the long run. She was always close to her family but it was her father who doted on her, who she looked up to and would do anything to believe. It was also due to him that they moved to Sentinal City when she was ten as he was mandated by the court to become a mentee after he accidentally caused a group of people to become invisible - before then none of her family had shown any sign of having powers or magic of any sort. After that incident her father became even cooler in her eyes. After he finally got enough training to control his powers, though he was fairly old to develop them, they often would play a game of hide and seek with one or the other being turned invisible when it was their turn to hide. Those games were same of the fondest memories she has of her family. In fact when the Mentorship program was started in 1989, Simon was one of the first people to sign up to Mentor young people seeing how beneficial it would be. Despite how close she is to her family, Jennifer is a rather shy person and is often found on the outer edges of social situations, silently listening to other conversations instead of participating with them. As she has grown up, she has become less of a 'wallflower' as she was often alone and never had any real friends but can still be incredibly shy, especially around large groups of people and at formal situations. Even though she is quiet shy, she can have a wicked sense of humour, often seeing the double meaning of words before others do - and the not so 'family rated' meaning as it is. In fact her brothers and the few close friends she does have, have often teased her about her mind being in the gutter all of the time. While Jennifer wouldn't be classified as a 'geek' or a 'nerd' she loves random facts of information on about any topic she can think of. She knows all the capital cities of Europe and which country hosted the Olympics since they restarted etc. Given how quiet she was as a child, it isn't all that surprising as she spent a lot of her spare time reading, at least when she wasn't with her family or the few friends she had growing up. Moving to Sentinel City, actually did wonders for her personality wise. It forced her to open up and meet new people and it was there that she started to make new friends - good friends, rather than people she just hung around to be seen as having friends. In England she would do that and then just go home as soon as she could to read the latest novel or book she had picked up or play with the Shetland Sheepdogs and Corgies they had while living there. These days, Jennifer while still quiet is a lot less quiet than she used to be though she is still far from being an extrovert, she has just gotten more experience in social situations. In her spare time she will spend time with the few good friends she has or researching various animals or other topics that take her fancy. After the help her father received and then her, she has found joy in helping young people with powers learn to control them and has taken on a few mentees over the years though she is still rather young compared to some of the other mentors. Jennifer is a very hands on sort of person when it comes to her teaching style though she will always make sure the students has the theory down first before they attempt to use their power. While she knows there is a lot that can be learned from books, in this situation the best way to learn is by trail and error. She will never get them started until they have an understanding though as that could be catastrophic. Despite that she will always be on hand to watch them transform especially the first few months until they have it under control. In fact she highly recommends that her students don't use their powers outside of her supervision at least for the first six months unless they show serious signs of learning control of their powers. She will continually test them on both the theory and practical sides of their powers - some surprise tests, some not as she believes they should always be prepared no matter the situation. Most of all though, Jennifer is scared of disappointing her father though logically she knows she never could it is something that has lived with her all of her life. Not that she knows why but she has always looked up to him and wanted to please him first and foremost. HISTORY: Jennifer Boyd was born on September 1 1974 in Hungerford, England. Hungerford, while a small town was full of history from being the closest town to Wolf Hall where Jane Seymour, Henry VIII's third wife grew up to the Bear Inn where both Henry VIII stayed as well as William of Orange where he was offered the crown after the revolution of 1688. Jennifer was the third and youngest child of Simon and Sandra Boyd, with two older brothers (Phillip and Jamie born 1961 & 1969 respectively). Due to such an age gap between her and Phillip, they were never that close though she was somewhat close to Jamie as they were closer in age and somewhat similar in personality. Given how much younger she was than her siblings, her parents tended to dote on her and give her what she wanted which turned out not to be all that much. Phillip, was the loudest of the three and was at the age where he often had friends around while she was still quiet young which lead her to spending a lot of time by herself to avoid him and his friends who were always quiet loud when they were having fun. Due to the lack of contact with other children until she started school, outside of her brothers, she never really got used to how to interact with children her age and often found herself ignored and left out by them. So instead she found refuge with books and the families dogs when she wasn't at school. That was pretty much her life for the first ten years. That was until her father, in a burst of temper accidentally made a group of children invisible when he noticed them teasing her. She wasn't all that bothered with it, she just tended to ignore them but as Jennifer was his baby girl he took offense at it. Because Simon had no idea what he had done, it was quite lucky that the children quickly turned visible again but that was the end of their life in England. The government paid for them to move to Sentinel City which had just been built in Canada on Kaien Island to gain training in their powers. They didn't want a 'freak' as they called him to be in their respected town. The Boyd family accepted that and the five of them - Phillip with much grumbling as he was twenty three at the time, moved to the new city to make a new life for themselves. Little did the family know that Jennifer had already developed powers of her own, something she swore to keep a secret. It was the year before and she was being chased by a few of the towns bullies who didn't like the way she would just sit there and ignore them - they got mad if you ignored them and mad if you talked to them as you 'talked back' to them. So it was no surprise that she wanted, desperately to get away from them before the beat her up like the rumours said they did to another girl. Next thing she knew there was searing pain and she was much closer to the ground and she could see a lot more grey than she used to - things that she knew weren't grey were grey. To say she was confused was an understatement. Despite that, she let instinct take over and she ran as fast as she could and eventually hid behind some dustbins. It was as she was sneaking out that she saw her reflection in the glass window. She was a cat. The shock of it made her change back and knock the bins over, making the locals come running. She mumbled something about running from bullies and they nodded, while one of them ran off to find an ice pack to stop her head from bruising where she had hit it on the bricks. It, not surprisingly freaked her out a lot and it took her nearly a month to actually sit down and figure out what had happened. She knew that there were people with abilities but had never thought that she might be one of them and didn't truly believe it until a month after they moved to Sentinel City when she confided in her father. During those intervening months she had tried to find out as much as she could but hadn't gotten all that far. She had yet to transform again - partly because she wasn't aware of how she had done so and partly because she didn't want to do it again. It had been an awkward situation (she barely realised at the time she was naked but afterwards...) and when she thought back on it all she remembered was the pain. In Sentinel City though she saw a new opportunity. While there wasn't an official program to mentor young people yet, she did find someone willing to teach her how to control her powers though at first it was incredibly slow process. It wasn't until her teacher shocked her into transforming another couple of times and meeting another shapeshifter that she started to accept it. That didn't mean it didn't take years for her to even get the most basic of transformations down pat. Besides this training, Jennifer was attending the local Elementary then High School along with some other students and it was here that she started to develop her personality from what it used to be back home in Hungerford. She made a few friends and while she was still a quiet person she wasn't constantly quiet, developed a few interests and actually started to settle down and work at school though she would always prefer to spend time with her friends chatting quietly or just sitting around reading with one another. When she was fifteen, the mentor/mentee program started though it wasn't until she was eighteen that she was allowed to join it. Between the work her unofficial mentor had taught her and what help her father had in controlling his ability to make people and objects invisible she knew that this sort of program would be highly helpful. It was during this year that she started to become willing to transform on her own after having it drilled into her that this could come in handy later, pointing out that she had already used it once to escape an unpleasant situation. That reminder was what finally made her accept it - and the knowledge that the pain would ease the more she transformed as that was a big deterrent for her. While at first she didn't have many skills and ended up in quite some embarrassing situations without her clothes though with a lot of work she is starting to learn to transform them with her (thankfully!). She is slowly getting more powerful and that is what keeps her going. After completing the program she gained her license from Sindicate to say she was able to control her power fully and went on to study at college to become a librarian. When she was twenty five she considered joining the program to become a Mentor herself but decided to wait awhile, to gain more experience with her skill and settle down with her life as she had just become engaged to Scott Peterson one of the workers at the Elementary School where they worked. The two of them were married a year later much to their families delight. Since then they have been trying for children but it seems they won't be graced with them which will saddening they have come to accept. Finally, on her thirty-fifth birthday, Jennifer left her job at the school and became a Mentor to her first student _____. A year later she finished the training and realised she wasn't sure what to do now and she ended up going back to work part time while she waited for someone else to Mentor. Since then she's had two more Mentee's and is keeping an eye out for another one while looking after their home and her aging parents as well as working part time. Only the most basic and pivotal moments are required, but please make sure you include how and when their power manifested, what made them want to join the Sidekick Program and if they want to be vigilante. If they have past mentee's, include them too. Remember to include why they were accepted onto it as well. Samples THIRD PERSON: Sarah Woodhouse FIRST PERSON: I truly do not expect to use this much as I've never been one to share my thoughts with others easily though I suppose I do see the advantage of having this network in that it does make it easier to communicate with others and to see what is going on. Still, I suppose I might spend a lot more time reading than I do writing especially with my job and my home life to deal with while I wait for another Mentee. I wish you all well and hope you don't abuse this. Even if they can't see you behind the screen you should be careful what you write about others. |
